Home Care

Home care is health or supportive care in a patient’s home by licensed health care professionals. Home care aims to make it possible for people to remain at home rather than use residential, long-term, or institutional-based nursing care. Individuals who may require home health care include the elderly, disabled, pregnant women and terminal patients.

These services may include some combination of professional health care services and life assistance services. Professional home health services could include medical or psychological assessment, wound care, medication instruction, pain management, disease education & management, physical therapy, speech therapy, or occupational therapy. Life assistance services include assistance with activities of daily living tasks such as meal preparation, medication reminders, laundry, light housekeeping, errands, shopping, transportation, and companionship.

Nurses and certified home health care aides typically provide home health care services.
